Starting school
Preparing your child to
start school
Beginning school marks a significant milestone for both children and parents, filled with a blend of excitement and apprehension. At New Beginnings, we are dedicated to guiding children through their transition to school whilst keeping parents informed at every stage of the journey. By collaborating as a united home and nursery team, we believe that children are well-prepared for this change.
Take time to go through each section to learn more about our strategy for preparing your child for school and supporting them at every level of their learning journey. If you have any questions then always get in touch with your nursery manager.
What we mean by the word transition
The term "transition" describes the changes a child faces when moving from one environment to another. As children grow from infancy into childhood, they progress through various learning stages. These transitions often involve changes that necessitate adjustments in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to align with new expectations.
By the time a child reaches school age, they may have already gone through several transition phases, such as moving from home to nursery, moving between different nursery rooms, changes at home, changes to their childcare provider and ultimately transitioning from nursery to school.
Transitions within New Beginnings
Every child deserves to feel at ease, self-assured, and emotionally secure during transitions. It's essential for young children to perceive themselves as valuable and capable members of their new social circles. We strive to foster positive attitudes towards the various new experiences they will face. Our goal is to help them maintain the self-confidence and self-respect they have already developed with our support.
Becoming ‘school-ready’
Throughout your child's journey at New Beginnings, we will concentrate on equipping them for each phase of their learning by cultivating essential skills, abilities, and attitudes. We aim to make sure that children are not just 'school-ready,' but also develop a healthy and positive outlook towards lifelong learning.
We focus on key attributes such as Resilience, Endeavour, Attitude, Desire, Individuality, Nurture, Excitement, Self-Esteem, and Specialness. Our continual commitment to fostering 'Readiness' skills will help ensure that all children feel not only prepared but also excited and confident as they embark on their transition to 'big school.'
